British: Assignment due 10/20

Who said that it was allowed to be late October already?! The leaves outside are changing and falling and I love it, but golly it happened quick!

Okay so just a reminder: due on Monday...

Read through "I Call Him Friday"

5-paragraph essay: What statement do you think Defoe is making about materialism (the desire to acquire money and possessions)? Show how Crusoe's attitude toward wealth changes.

Let me know if you have any questions!

hey i have a question..... if we use quotes, how do u want us to do it.
should it be like this...
"----the quote---- (p. 100)" or do we need the paragraph # or i'm just not sure what u want us to put down.

if your are quoting something in the book. I think we are supposed to do it like this...
"--quote--" (author's last name, page #).
So for robinson Crusoe it would be (Defoe, 45)

Perfect Caleb, except no comma. (Defoe 45)

Great question Stef!

okay this is a random question... :)

is there a rule about capitalizing pronouns that refer to Jesus or God? sometimes in the Bible and other places they capitalize the H, (like “and He said to them…”) and then other times they don’t, so i was wondering if there's a rule about it. thanks! :) rach

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I've seen it done both ways before, so does it really matter?

Girls,

It depends on the Bible version you have - most do not capitalized it. Other authors (apart from the writers of Scripture) leave it up to their own beliefs about respect, etc. For my class you can do either. I, for one, do not usually capitalize the pronoun.

For the character paper, would Robinson Crusoe be dynamic? He changes somewhat when he's on the island, but he still wants power. And for the character sketch, one of the questions is, "What is he willing to get?" and I'm not sure what that is...

Oh. I have one more question, are we supposed to pick only one character trait for our paper? Or 3?

Amber said...

Uhhh... are we required to do the character sketch questions on Robinson Crusoe? Or was that just meant to help us on the paper?

Monica - sorry, dear, but I can't answer those first two questions for ya! ;) I want YOU to decide those things based on your character questions and study of the book. Your third question, about one character trait or three, is up to you. You can pick one trait (though it may be difficult) and show how it's displayed in three different ways, for example. Your choice - be creative.

Kris, you will not be turning those questions in, if that's what you're asking. I *strongly* recommend you do them. They will serve you!

Ally,

I'm afraid that my report sounds too much like the report we just handed into you... Is that bad?

Well they should be definitively different. Are you focusing on materialism too heavily in your character paper? Choose other traits if you can.
