1. Make a list of each mention of Molly and of each of Godfrey’s reactions towards her.

British: homework due 2/23

Hey guys,

Just your friendly reminder: your homework was to read chapters 1 - 7 in Silas Marner.

You were also to do one of the following essays:

1. What significance does the novel's title, Great Expectations, have for the story? In what ways does Pip have “great expectations”?

2. Discuss the character of Miss Havisham. What themes does she embody? What experiences have made her as she is? Is she a believable character? How does she relate to Pip and Estella?

3. What role does social class play in Great Expectations? What lessons does Pip learn from his experience as a wealthy gentleman? How is the theme of social class central to the novel?

4. Throughout the novel, Pip is plagued by powerful feelings of guilt and shame, and everywhere he goes he tends to encounter symbols of justice—handcuffs, gallows, prisons, and courtrooms. What is the role of guilt in the novel? What does it mean to be “innocent”?

This essay is more informal than a 5-paragraph paper. It is more like a personal response. Still, the more organized you can be, the better.

Also, in answer to Cat's question: yes, you should turn in your vocab on Monday as well.

Have a happy week!

American: homework due 2/23

Hey class,

Just a reminder: your homework was to finish the book and write a 5-paragraph character paper on the character of your choice. You should also turn in your vocab next week, which I forgot to mention. (Had I assigned you vocab at the beginning of the book? Please tell me if I didn't...)

Have a fantastic week!

British: homework due 2/16

Class,

Missed you TONS. I can't wait to hear how the debate went (if you did it) and how you all are. I was thinking of you so much while I was gone. (I mean... not THAT much because I was on vacation. ;))

Your homework for Monday:
- Read Chapters 43 - 58

Since I don't think Mrs. Hoover gave you any homework, please pass this assignment on to your classmates.
